The recent surge in deepfake videos has taken the internet by storm, and Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has become the latest victim of this AI-generated synthetic media. A new deepfake video has surfaced, showing Alia getting ready in a black kurta, sparking concerns over the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This is not the first time Alia has fallen prey to deepfakes, with previous videos showing her face merged with another actor’s and making obscene gestures. The worrying trend has sparked outrage, with many social media users expressing concern over the potential dangers of AI. The government has taken notice, advising social media platforms to ensure users do not violate the prohibited content rule of the IT Act, with penalties of up to Rs 1 lakh in fine and three years in jail for creating and circulating deepfakes. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cautioned, it is essential to use technology responsibly, and the misuse of AI for creating deepfake videos is indeed a big concern.
