Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI, has made a swift move by launching a new company, Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), just a month after leaving OpenAI. Sutskever, who was instrumental in OpenAI’s AI safety efforts, has founded SSI with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy. The company’s primary focus is to develop safe superintelligent AI systems, a crucial area of research that Sutskever has been emphasizing for a long time. SSI’s approach is to tackle safety and capabilities simultaneously, ensuring that safety always remains ahead of capabilities. This singular focus allows the company to avoid distractions and short-term commercial pressures. With offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, SSI is already recruiting technical talent, and its for-profit model is likely to attract significant funding.
