The rising cost of energy has become a pressing concern globally, and households are looking for innovative ways to reduce their power consumption. Amid this crisis, a team of students from Taiwan’s National Central University and National Cheng Kung University has developed a smart power conservation solution that utilizes generative AI to analyze electricity usage and provide personalized advice to users. The team, named “Hao I Coding,” won the honorable mention award at the AI Wave: Taiwan Generative AI Applications Hackathon, held by DIGITIMES, for their innovative solution that addresses three major energy efficiency challenges: inaccurate responses from chatbots, lack of air conditioning settings, and no way of knowing the electricity usage of traditional home appliances. By connecting smartphones with air conditioning systems and leveraging generative AI, the team’s solution provides users with a perfect energy conservation balance. What’s impressive is that the team overcame the limitations of Large Language Models (LLMs) by using domain-specific data and training to build a chatbot that provides practical and logical advice. This solution has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach energy conservation, and it’s a testament to the power of innovation and collaboration.
