The World Intelligence Expo, a four-day trade exhibition in Tianjin, China, has highlighted the growing divide between China and Western countries in the tech industry. Despite boasting participation from 49 countries and regions, the event saw limited participation from foreign firms, with only 20 exhibitors out of 550, most of which were relegated to a corner of the exhibition floor. The speaker list was dominated by Chinese tech executives, and the booths were mainly occupied by Chinese state firms and local tech giants like Huawei and iFlyTek. The lack of foreign participation is reminiscent of other tech trade shows in China, underscoring Washington’s push for technological decoupling. Amidst the limited foreign presence, Chinese exhibitors showcased their latest electric vehicles, robots, and large language models, while the US ramps up efforts to curb China’s access to advanced chips and AI technologies.
