In a recent study by Hakkoda, it’s revealed that companies are rapidly modernizing their data estates and moving to centralized cloud data platforms, with a primary goal of enabling generative AI capabilities. The survey of 500 senior leaders across eight industries shows that 42% of respondents are already using GenAI tools, and 29% have transitioned to a centralized data platform. However, 74% of participants plan to migrate to a cloud data platform in 2024, and 85% expect to adopt GenAI this year. The study highlights that the top GenAI performers are mid-sized companies with $500 million in revenue, who are big enough to invest in GenAI but small enough to remain agile. Manufacturers are leading the way in GenAI deployments, using the technology for data cleaning, cataloging, and automation. While companies are making progress, there is still much work to be done to reach their ultimate data goals. In my opinion, the study underscores the importance of a strategic approach to GenAI implementation, investing in both modernization and long-term data strategy to unlock its full potential.
