Amazon is doubling its AWS credits for Series A-funded startups to $200,000 starting July 1, in a strategic move to solidify its position against Microsoft in the AI services market. Seed-stage startups will still receive $100,000 in credits. Matt Garman, newly appointed CEO of AWS, has been actively engaging with Silicon Valley founders, highlighting the importance of AI companies as prime AWS customers. The credits now have an extended expiration period of three years. Amazon’s AWS has a dominant market share, serving 96% of AI and machine learning unicorns. Despite AWS’s market leadership since 2006, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud are gaining ground, fueled by their advancements in AI, such as Microsoft’s backing of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Additionally, Amazon has launched a new 10-week generative AI accelerator program, offering up to $1 million in cloud credits. These moves come in response to the competitive pressures and market shifts in cloud-based AI services, with AWS aiming to maintain its edge amid intensified competition.
