Meta is updating its AI content label from “Made with AI” to “AI info” after user feedback indicated the original label was inaccurately applied to some images. The change comes after incidents, such as a photo taken 40 years ago by former White House photographer Pete Souza, were incorrectly tagged. Souza suggested that using Adobe’s cropping tool and flattening images might have triggered the tag. Meta’s spokesperson Kate McLaughlin stated the company is continuously improving its AI products and collaborating with industry partners on AI labeling approaches. The new “AI info” label is intended to more accurately represent that content may have been modified rather than wholly generated by AI. The issue appears to stem from how metadata tools like Adobe Photoshop embed information into images, which platforms then misinterpret. The updated labeling will first appear on mobile apps and later on web views, rolling out across all Meta platforms.
