The integration of generative AI in education is transforming the way assessments are conducted, rendering traditional reading- and writing-based evaluations obsolete. As more students employ ChatGPT and similar tools, educators are adapting by developing innovative methods to evaluate learning, focusing on the process rather than the output. Mike Kentz, founder of AI For Schools, has pioneered the use of chatbots in assessment grading, where students guide conversations and refine interactions based on the bot’s output. Researchers at the University of Reading have demonstrated the futility of traditional open-ended writing assignments, as 94% of AI-generated submissions went undetected and outperformed students. The shift in assessment focus is crucial, as traditional outputs are becoming less relevant. Educators must prioritize AI literacy and critical thinking, teaching students to engage with information produced on the internet and reflect critically on AI-generated responses.
