Overview of the Initiative

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade has launched the Gemini Academy to boost the global competitiveness of its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This initiative, created with Google Indonesia, focuses on helping SMEs utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to improve their operations and reach international markets. The program aims to provide local businesses with the necessary tools and knowledge to innovate and succeed in a digital economy. It specifically targets both export-oriented and non-export SMEs, offering customized training to optimize operations, cut costs, and enhance competitiveness.

Key Features of the Program

  • The Gemini Academy offers a three-tiered training program for SMEs at different stages:

Potential Exporter SME: For businesses exploring international markets for the first time.

Basic Export SME: For those with some export experience, enhancing their capabilities.

Advanced Export SME: For established exporters wanting to optimize and scale up.

  • Participants will learn to use AI tools to improve processes, analyze market data, and develop global strategies.
  • The initiative also provides 500 scholarships for AI-related courses to civil servants in the Ministry of Trade, ensuring government employees understand digital tools to better support SMEs.
  • Indonesia is the first country to introduce such a program, marking an important milestone in digital innovation.

Significance of the Academy

The launch of the Gemini Academy is crucial for Indonesia’s economic growth and digital transformation. By empowering SMEs with AI tools, the initiative opens doors for innovation and global competitiveness. This program not only supports businesses but also equips civil servants with necessary skills, creating a comprehensive approach to fostering a digital economy. As the Minister of Trade highlighted, this initiative is about more than just technology; it aims to enable SMEs to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, potentially positioning Indonesia as a leader in innovation.
